What To Look Forward To This Week

August Rush

Stephen King's: The Mist

Hitman

Beowulf

Overall: 43.75/100 (E----)

One of the most over-hyped and over blown movies of the year goes to Beowulf. It had average acting at best with the only purpose of paying the $20 for the food and ticket was the 3-D. Other than that it did a poor representation of the actual epic poem Beowulf.

Plot: 5/10

The plot was very average and at most points very predictable. It also didn't really lend it self to any deep meanings, it seems that the director made this movie just to make it without any clear purpose as to why, illustrated in the plot, or movie.

Acting: 5/10 (except Angelina Jolie: 8/10)

The acting could've only been worse if they didn't yell. It was just like 300, constant yelling. But unlike 300 it had very short fight scenes with so much of it being dedicated to getting the plot rolling.

Speciality (action/adventure): 3/10

Very poor performance on trying to make it an action film. The director needs to learn that in order to be an acton film it should have about a 70/30 fight:talk ratio, and the plot shouldn't be as predominant as it was. This being said, this is probably the most important catagory for the reason that people expect different things from different types of movies. Once again look at 300: ok acting, ok plot, great action/adventure. That is what made 300 succesful, not the plot, not the acting, but the way it addressed its genre, which beowulf did not do very well.

20-minute test: fail (3/10)

You lose about half your intrest in the plot and characters after this key point and are just hoping for more fight seens.

One last critique i must make is the director trying to MAKE ME THINK about the end, and what it all meant that grendall's mother was staring at beowulf's friend in the end of the movie. He was trying to force something that wasn't really obvious because by the end you're not really caring about the plot anymore, and you don't know what he is doing.

Recap:

Plot: 5/10
Acting: 5/10 (except Angelina Jolie: 8/10)
Speciality (action/adventure): 3/10
20-minute test: fail (3/10)
Overall: 43.75/100 (E----)

PS the 43.75/100 just came from a percentage so don't go looking for extra numbers somewhere.

Beginnings

Hello! Welcome to my blog of Major Movie Critic. I thought that a couple critics we're either too generous, or too harsh on some major movies so I decided to be a critic of my own. I shall rate opening movies based on several criteria: Plot, Acting, Specialty(comedy; has to be funny, adventure; has to be adventrous), and does it pass the long-tested 20 minute movie test. All of these catagories are based out of 10 (10 being best, 1 being worst).
